Comparing Brands of Cabinets and Countertops
Well, we are here to help. Read on below to find out more.
Choosing Between Different Brands of Cabinets and Counter Tops
It can be tough to choose between different brands, especially when you know nothing about any of the brands offered. This is why we put together this little guide to help you decide.
Quartz counter tops are extremely popular. Unlike granite, quartz counter tops come with a brand name rather than just a color name.
- and many, many more
At New Leaf, we can get you almost any quartz brand on the market, but our primary brands are Pental, MSI, Caesarstone, Silestone, and Cambria. We most often recommend going with MSI or Pental because of their large variety of color options and 15-year warranties.
We typically recommend MSI or Pental due to their 15-year warranty and tons of color options.
The biggest differences in counter tops actually are color palette, the "one thing," slab quality, manufacturer warranty, and finally, availability.
Certain brands carry a limited amount of colors, while other brands carry a huge variety to choose from, sometimes even over 100 different choices.
Their "One Thing"
Each Brand has a signature "one thing" that makes them them, a specialty that separates them from their competition. For example:
- Cambria, the world’s largest producer of quartz countertops, is known for its bold, dynamic designs with large, sparkly aggregates.
- Caesarstone on the other hand has a large amount of clean, modern and monochromatic designs like pure white and rugged concrete.
- Pental is the best at imitating marble and has color choices ranging from bright white to warm gray.
- Okite offers several quartz countertops that are translucent and can be backlit with LED lighting
- Silestone offers three different textures of countertops: Polished, Suede and Volcano.
You'll also want to take a look at warranty when choosing counter tops.
Cambria and Caesarstone, for example, offer limited lifetime warranties, whereas other major manufacturers warranty their products for 15-20 years.
When purchasing new countertops, it is absolutely essential to speak with your countertop fabricator about what their warranty covers in addition to the manufacturer warranty.
A quality fabricator will warranty their workmanship for at least one year. Things to look for in a fabrication warranty are sink separation and seam breakage as these are the two most common instances that will occur within a few months of getting your new countertops.
Include availability in your cabinet and counter top decisions. You may find something you love, but still want to go with something else simply because what you originally liked would take longer to get to you or isn't easy to replace if damaged.
If you're making choices early enough in your remodeling project, waiting a few weeks for cabinets or counter tops may not be an issue. However, if you need to start using them next week, you can't wait!
So ask about availability. It's pointless to look at colors and styles that won't be available for several weeks if you can't afford to wait that long. Many times certain colors are stocked out of state, which is why the wait is longer.
Thankfully, at New Leaf, we only offer in-stock colors in our New Leaf Square Foot Collection, sold by the square foot, that can save you thousands of dollars.
We only offer our favorite brands of cabinets, so you'll always have the best, high-quality cabinets in your kitchen. Our offered brands include:
Yorketowne is our #1 favorite brand, though. We like Yorketowne because it offers consumers a lot of exciting advantages:
- lifetime warranty
- high-quality construction
- large variety of color choices
- large variety of door choices
- very competitive pricing
- extremely customizable
In fact, it's one of the most customizable cabinet brands on the market. They offer custom sizes, custom colors, and more. Basically, if we can draw it, they'll build it.
Watch Out for Cabinets and Counter Tops with No Brand Name
Lately there's been an increase in the number of cabinets and counter tops that are "brandless." So what does that mean for you?
Well, if there's no brand name, there's no brand warranty.
No Name = No Warranty
The low prices may look enticing, but you have no way of knowing the quality of what you're getting. Typically, "no name" counter tops and cabinets don't have many quality control procedures in place during their manufacturing process.
So you'd be getting something of questionable quality, with no warranty and no guarantees. Not a good risk to take.
In fact, the chances of having an issue with "no name" manufacturers is much higher than it would be from a warrantied manufacturer. Since the "brandless" brand isn't obligated to replace their products, they don't invest in quality control.
Furthermore, "brandless" companies tend to import from countries with little care for environmental protection, which is irresponsible and dangerous.
Your counter tops especially are in contact with the food you eat, which is why the safe chemical make-up of them is extremely important.
