University Place Kitchen and Basement Remodel
Contractor's Case Study
In this basement and kitchen renovation project in University Place, we took a mid 70’s split level home with an attached but separate daylight basement apartment and renovated into one congruent family home.
The only access to the basement was from an exterior door, so we reframed the living room floor joists and cut in a staircase to the basement. We then remodeled the entire basement to be much more functional and family friendly.
Instead of a cramped two bedroom apartment with a tiny kitchenette, we opened up the floor plan to create a large family room and with a small beverage and snack bar. The floors were upgraded from linoleum to carpet.
We also converted the makeshift man door installed by the previous owner into a proper sliding glass door allowing more natural light into the space.
